Günther Fischer (architect)

Günther Fischer (born May 26, 1950 in Husum ) is a German architect , urban planner , architectural theorist , university professor and author.

Life

Günther Fischer studied German and art history at the Georg-August University of Göttingen (1968–1969), German language and literature, political science and philosophy at the Free University of Berlin (1970–1973) and then moved to the Technical University of Berlin to study architecture (1973–1973) 1978).

From 1980 to 1985 he was a research assistant at Dietmar Grötzebach's chair at the Faculty of Architecture at the Technical University of Berlin, where he did his doctorate on the subject of "Architecture and Language" and was appointed professor at the architecture department of the newly founded Erfurt University of Applied Sciences in 1991.

Since 1991 Fischer has also been working as a freelance architect in an office community. The main focus of his work is housing construction, urban development, renovation planning and museum construction.

In addition to his practical work as an architect and urban planner, Fischer has been working on the basics of architectural theory since his dissertation and has been working on a theoretical foundation for the field of architecture since 2004. From 2008 to 2015, Fischer was dean of the architecture faculty in Erfurt (from 2011 faculty for architecture and urban planning).

Fischer has been co-editor of Bauwelt Fundamente since November 2015 .
