Günther Nonnenmacher

Günther Nonnenmacher (born November 2, 1948 in Karlsruhe ) is a German journalist and was co-editor of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) until 2014 .

Life

Nonnenmacher studied political science , history , constitutional law and philosophy at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau , the University of Frankfurt and the University of Heidelberg . In 1975 he received his doctorate with Dolf Sternberger with a dissertation on James Harrington . Nonnenmacher then worked as a research assistant in political science at the University of Wuppertal , where he also completed his habilitation. In 1982 he joined the politics department of the FAZ , since 1986 he was the editor responsible for foreign policy. From 1994 on he was one of the editors of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. In February 2014, the FAZ announced Nonnenmacher's departure from the editorial board on June 30th, but after Frank Schirrmacher's unexpected death on June 12th, 2014, he postponed his retirement and temporarily took over the management of the feature pages .

Since 2009 Nonnenmacher has been an honorary professor for politics and communication science at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Philosophy at the University of Leipzig .

Nonnenmacher retired at the end of 2014 and left the editorial board.
