Günther Ottendorfer (born December 18, 1968 in Vienna ) is an Austrian manager and former Chief Technical Officer (CTO) of Telekom Austria .

Life

Ottendorfer studied computer science at the Technical University of Vienna from 1987 to 1992 and graduated with honors.

He began his professional career in 1990 at Siemens Austria, first as a software developer, later in cable production and in sales in Austria and Hungary.

In 1996 he was a founding member of the mobile operator max.mobil in Austria. Further stations in his career include: COO or CTO for T-Mobile Austria , Technical Director for T-Mobile Germany , and European technology director for the group of international mobile communications companies of Deutsche Telekom AG, which is grouped under T-Mobile International . From 2004 to 2006 he was chairman of the telecommunications professional group in the Austrian Chamber of Commerce .

In 2011, Günther Ottendorfer was appointed Managing Director Network at Optus Singtel , where he was responsible for the network infrastructures for mobile communications, landline networks, cable TV and satellite transmission, and in particular the introduction of LTE .

From September 2013 to March 2015, Günther Ottendorfer was Chief Technology Officer member of the Board of Management of the Telekom Austria Group . The main focus of his work included managing the investments of the Telekom Austria Group in its network infrastructure as well as developing and testing new innovations and technologies such as network function virtualization and software-defined networking . In March 2015, however, he was replaced by Alejandro Plater by the Supervisory Board about one and a half years before his contract expired, with immediate effect, but without publicly giving reasons.

Since December 2014 he has been a board member of the Next Generation Mobile Networks (NGMN) Alliance, a committee for the global standardization of future generations of mobile communications (e.g. 4G / LTE or 5G). In August 2015 he took over as COO at the US mobile operator Sprint , and returned to Austria at the end of 2017.

He is married and has three daughters.
