Günther Rau (born May 12, 1930 ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

Rau belonged to Borussia Dortmund in the Oberliga West from 1948 to 1957 , in one of the five highest German divisions at the time. He made his debut on November 21, 1948 (9th matchday) in a 7-0 win in the away game against Fortuna Düsseldorf and played five more point games in his debut season. During his club membership he contributed in 68 point games to five championships in the Oberliga West. Due to the success he played for Borussia Dortmund in 1948/49 four games and 1949/50 one game in the final round of the German championship . At its premiere, he played the quarter-finals , which he won 5-0 against Berliner SV 1892 in Berlin on June 12, 1949, and the semi-final against 1. FC Kaiserslautern in Munich on June 26 , which ended goalless despite extra time and did not produce a winner . He was then used in the replay, which he and his team won 4-1 on July 3 in Cologne. The final, held on July 10th against VfR Mannheim in Stuttgart's Neckar Stadium, was lost in front of 92,000 spectators with 2: 3 after extra time. He played his last cup game on May 21, 1950 when he lost 3-1 to the defending champion from Mannheim. With the championship won 4-1 against Hamburger SV in Hanover on June 23, 1957 , Borussia Dortmund took part in the European Champion's Cup for the second time ; Rau made his debut on November 27, 1957 in the Dortmund first leg against the Romanian champions CCA Bucharest - his only international club game. With the 1: 4 defeat in the second leg at AC Milan , Borussia Dortmund was eliminated from the competition in the quarter-finals .
