Günther Schlund

Günther Schlund (born July 2, 1928 in Schwerin ; † November 2, 2004 in Egliswil ) was a German-Swiss horn player . He came from a family of doctors and musicians.

biography

After studying at the music academies in Schwerin and Munich, Schlund first worked as principal horn in the Winterthur City Orchestra (now the Winterthur Music College ) under Hermann Scherchen . At the beginning of the 1950s he moved to the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich , also as a solo horn player, and held this position for four decades until his retirement in 1993. As a solo horn player he also worked for many years in the Lucerne Festival Orchestra . He also practiced an intensive chamber music activity.

Schlund was not only an instrumentalist, but also a music teacher. During his time at the Tonhalle, he held a professorship for horn at the Zurich Conservatory (later Zurich University of Music and Theater, today Zurich University of the Arts ) and trained several well-known musicians. His students include the former Tonhalle horn players Matthias Kofmehl and Jakob Hefti . as well as the current Tonhalle horn player Karl Fässler.

Günther Schlund was married and had a son. He lived in Zurich-Wollishofen , Uetikon am See and Egliswil.
