epitaph

As dean of the cathedral, Günther von Bünau found his final resting place in Naumburg Cathedral and received the epitaph shown here as a tribute. The yellow sandstone epitaph is located in the square of the west choir. It shows the clergyman in full-figure representation, which is spanned by a canopy made of branches. Bünau is shown in his regalia with a long undergarment, a long-sleeved choir shirt and an almutia . The tape above his head names his office in Naumburg and his academic degree as a doctor of theology. Angels wear a prelate's hat above him as a sign of his position as apostolic protonotary .
