GALA Choruses
The Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses ( GALA Choruses ) is an international association of LGBT - choirs . By building up the network , workshops , festivals and administrative support, the association promotes the continuous artistic and organizational development of the member choirs in order to change the world through songs.
The non-profit organization is based in the USA. The association has over 120 choirs with more than 7,500 singers. In the member choirs, more than 40 small ensembles have come together. Any LGBT choir or LGBT supporting choir can become a member. There are male and female choirs and mixed ensembles from five to over 250 members, representing a wide range of styles. Most are based in North America, with additional members in Australia and Europe . In addition to smaller annual workshops and conferences, GALA Choruses organizes a large festival every four years.
history
At the first Gay Games in San Francisco in 1982 , fourteen choirs met for the first West Coast Choir Festival and founded the GALA Choruses Network , which was later renamed GALA Choruses .
