Gabriel-Laurent Paillou
Gabriel-Laurent Paillou (also Gabriel-Laurent Pailloux ; born March 7, 1735 in Puybelliard , Vendée , † December 15, 1826 in La Rochelle ) was a French Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of La Rochelle .
Life
He was a professor at the seminary of Luçon , later vicar general of the diocese of Luçon . During the revolutionary years, Gabriel-Laurent Paillou emigrated to Spain. In 1801 he returned to France and became Vicar General of the Diocese of La Rochelle. On December 17, 1804 he was appointed Bishop of La Rochelle. The episcopal ordination was donated to him on February 2, 1805 by Pope Pius VII personally; Co-consecrators were the Archbishops Benedetto Fenaja CM and Francesco Bertazzoli , papal almsman . During the restoration , Louis XVIII tried . in vain to achieve his resignation.
