Gabriel Theubet

Gabriel Theubet (born September 12, 1936 in Bure , resident in Fahy ) is a Swiss politician ( CVP ). He represented the Canton of Jura from 1987 to December 1995 National Council .

biography

Theubet grew up in Lausanne , where he also received most of his schooling. From 1953 to 1956 he attended the teachers' college in Porrentruy , after which he taught for several years as a teacher in Chevenez . After three years of study, he graduated from the University of Neuchâtel with a degree in economics in 1965 . After working as a journalist for the Pays newspaper from 1966 , he returned to the teaching profession and taught at the commercial vocational school in Porrentruy from 1970 to 1984. He then headed the financial administration of the Canton of Jura from 1984 to 1993.

In 1969 Theubet was elected to the municipal council of Porrentruy. His election as mayor in 1972 came as a surprise, because after over a hundred years the Christian Democrats succeeded in ousting the FDP from this office. He held this office until 1984. At the same time, he was a member of the constituent assembly of the Canton of Jura until 1976. From 1979 to 1984 he sat in the Jura parliament . Theubet was elected to the National Council in 1987 and was a member until his resignation in 1995. Among other things, he was Vice-President of the Finance Commission and a member of the Commission for Economics and Taxes. He mainly dealt with the areas of public finance, social security, agriculture and the army. From 1999 to 2002 he was a member of the cantonal parliament for a second time.

Theubet is married and has three children.
