Gabriele Mandel (* 1924 in Bologna ; † July 1, 2010 in Milan ) was an Italian psychologist , writer and artist of Afghan descent who also published under the names Gabriele Mandel Khân or Gabriele Mandel Sugana.

Gabriele Mandel was the son of the historian Jusuf Roberto Mandel (1895–1963) and the Jewish writer Carlotta Rimini. Gabriele D'Annunzio was his godfather. Gabriele Mandel studied violin and harmony at the Vicenza Conservatory .

After the war , Mandel studied classical languages ​​and literature. He carried out archaeological studies in India and the Middle East and published the results. At the same time he deepened his scientific knowledge with Cesare Musatti . After that, Mandel worked as a psychotherapist.

Mandel was a professor of history and art at the University of Milan . He was a member of the Academy of Islam in Cambridge and a founding member of the Islamic University in Cordoba (now closed).

He published works catalogs by Botticelli (1967), Daumier (1971), Fragonard (1972), Gauguin (1972), Hogarth (1967) and Toulouse-Lautrec (1969), among others .
