Gaetano D'Agostino (born June 4, 1982 in Palermo ) is an Italian football coach and former attacking midfielder and has been under contract with US Alessandria Calcio in Serie C since 2018 .
Career
In the club
Gaetano D'Agostino began his career in 1990 in the youth department of the US Palermo , where he once managed to score 100 goals in one season. In 1998, at the age of 16, he moved to AS Roma , where he immediately belonged to the squad of the professional team trained by the Czech Zdeněk Zeman . On November 5, 2000 D'Agostino made his Serie A debut under coach Fabio Capello in the 4-2 win over Brescia Calcio . At the end of the 2000/01 season he was able to celebrate winning the Italian championship with Roma .
In the summer of 2001, Gaetano D'Agostino, as part of Antonio Cassano's transfer to Rome, moved to AS Bari , which received 50% of his transfer rights. In Bari, the Italian was a regular in Serie B for two years . In 2003 he returned to AS Roma, where he was not used very often in the following two seasons. In January 2005, Gaetano D'Agostino went to Sicilian club FC Messina , where he was a regular in Serie A under Bortolo Mutti and scored five goals in 42 games.
In the summer of 2006, D'Agostino moved to Udinese Calcio , where he made his final breakthrough in the 2008/09 season . The midfielder led the Friulian club to seventh place in the table with eleven goals in 36 games and aroused the interest of the big clubs. In the summer of 2010 he was finally hired by Fiorentina , with whom he signed a three-year contract.
In the national team
Having already for the U-16 and U-18 national teams had played, was Gaetano D'Agostino between 2002 and 2004 that of Claudio Gentile trained U-21 team in Italy and won the team title in the U- 21 European Championship 2004 in Germany .
On November 16, 2008 D'Agostino was nominated for the first time for the squad of the senior team , but was not used in the friendly against Greece . The midfielder made his Squadra Azzurra debut on June 6, 2009 under Marcello Lippi in the 3-0 win against Northern Ireland in Pisa .
