Gail Bowen

Gail Dianne Bowen (born September 22, 1942 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a Canadian writer , university teacher and playwright . She is one of the crime writers .

Life

Born as Gail Dianne Bartholomew in Toronto in 1944, she attended the University of Toronto , the University of Waterloo and the University of Saskatchewan . She then taught English at the University of Saskatchewan. She later was an Associate Professor of English at the First Nations University of Canada before retiring.

She currently resides in Regina , Saskatchewan with her husband, Ted Wren Bowen, whom she married in 1968 . The couple has three children.

Bowen's detective novels developed the character of the fictional character Joanne Kilbourn , a widowed mother, political analyst and university professor who occasionally finds herself embroiled in criminal investigations in various regions of Saskatchewan. Six of these stories were adapted from Canadian television as television films by Shaftesbury Films.

Her works have been translated into German, Dutch and Chinese to this day.

Gail Bowen also produced various plays. These include Dancing in Poppies , an adaptation of Beauty and the Beast , and The Tree, an adaptation of the Peter Pan theme, all of which premiered at the Globe Theater in Regina. The author also wrote The World According to Charlie D. , a radio play about a radio talk show host that CBC / Radio Canada aired in 2007. A sequel aired in August 2008 and was adopted by six other English-speaking countries.

Awards

For their crime novel A Colder Kind of Death was in 1995 with the Arthur Ellis Award excellent.
