Gail Dolgin
Gail Dolgin (born April 4, 1945 in Great Neck , New York , † October 7, 2010 in Berkeley , California ) was an American documentary filmmaker .
Life
Dolgin grew up on Long Island and returned to New York after studying art at the University of Pennsylvania , where she took up further studies in photography. In 1993 she made her first documentary , Cuba Va: The Challenge of the Next Generation . For her second documentary, Daughter from Danang , made in 2002 , she was nominated for an Oscar in the category of best documentary . She was diagnosed with cancer in 2001 and died while working on The Barber of Birmingham: Foot Soldier of the Civil Rights Movement , the short film completed by Robin Fryday was Oscar-nominated in 2012 in the category of best documentary short .
