The Gailbach , also called Geilbach , is a 7.7 kilometer long right tributary of the Kainach in Styria .

course

The Gailbach arises in the western part of the municipality Bärnbach , in the central part of the cadastral municipality Piberegg , southeast of the farm Kotter, northeast of the farm Binder and north of the farm Spannagl. In the upper course it flows in a flat left curve and in the lower course it flows flat and meandering right curve overall to the southeast. In the southern part of the cadastral community of Bärnbach and southwest of the Peter Leitner settlement , it flows into the Kainach about 100 meters west of the L341, which turns left shortly afterwards. For a short stretch of its course, the Gailbach forms the boundary between the municipalities of Bärnbach and Köflach .

On its course, the Gailbach takes on three named and several smaller unnamed watercourses.

Flood protection

To protect against floods, a retention basin was built on the Gailbach in the municipality of Köflach in 2001 , but this should be expanded as it has already passed over during a flood event.
