The Gaisstein is 974 m above sea level. A. high mountain in the Gutenstein Alps in Lower Austria . Despite its low altitude, the summit region has an alpine character as it is very rocky and almost tree-free. The summit is located in the municipality of Furth an der Triesting , from where most hikers also climb the mountain. The ridge of the summit, which extends in an east-west direction, is delimited on the north side by an imposing rock face.
There has been a wildlife enclosure around the summit for several years, the fencing of which can be negotiated in two places via a ladder and a revolving door, so that the summit can still be reached.
Well-known neighboring mountains of the Gaisstein are the Hocheck ( 1037 m ) and the Kieneck ( 1106 m ). The popular excursion destination Steinwandklamm is also nearby .
