The Cilicic snowdrop ( Galanthus cilicicus ) is a species of the snowdrop ( Galanthus ) genus in the Amaryllis family (Amaryllidaceae).

features

The Cilica snowdrop is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 10 to 18 centimeters. This geophyte forms an onion as a persistence organ. The leaves measure 11 to 15 × 0.5 to 0.7 centimeters at flowering time (7). The outer bracts measure 1.8 to 2.2 × 0.6 to 1 centimeters, the inner 0.9 to 1.1 × 0.4 centimeters.

The flowering period extends from November to January.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24, rarely 36.

Occurrence

The Cilizian snowdrop occurs in southern Turkey in the province of Icel between grass and bushes on limestone cliffs at an altitude of about 500 meters.

use

The Cilizian snowdrop is cultivated as an ornamental plant at most as a hobby plant. It's been in culture since around 1990.

ingredients

A phytochemical investigation of Galanthus cilicicus revealed 20 alkaloids . Haemanthamine and tazettin were the main alkaloids in the above-ground parts of the plant, while galanthamine and tazettin were in the underground parts .

Synonyms

The synonym Galanthus nivalis subsp. Is sometimes used for Galanthus cilicicus . cilicicus (Baker) Gottl.-Tann. used, but there is no closer relationship to Galanthus nivalis .
