The gallery Steinek is a gallery for contemporary art in Vienna .

History and work

At the age of 23, Silvia Steinek opened the gallery together with her father Heinrich Steinek in 1982 in Himmelpfortgasse. In 1990 further exhibition rooms, known as "Die Halle", were added and since 2006 the gallery has been located at its current location in Eschenbachgasse. Initially, the exhibition program focused mainly on artists from the generation of Arnulf Rainer , Dieter Roth and Franz Ringel .

The gallery participates in joint projects of the Viennese galleries such as the Gallery Weekend or curated by_ . Since it was founded, Galerie Steinek has participated in international trade fairs such as Art Brussels, Art Basel , Arco, FIAC and Viennafair .

Artist

The artists represented by Galerie Steinek include the American artists Robert Barry and Tony Oursler , as well as the contemporary Austrian artists Ilse Haider , Gudrun Kampl, Julius Deutschbauer, Michaela Spiegel and Clemens Wolf. In the photography branch, the gallery represents the Austrian Matthias Herrmann and the Chinese artist Rong Rong.
