Matthias Herrmann (photographer)

Matthias Herrmann (born December 4, 1963 in Munich ) is a German ballet dancer and photographer . From 2006 to 2012 he was professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna .

Life

Herrmann graduated from the Heinz Bosl Foundation for Dance in Munich. From 1986 Herrmann worked at the Vienna State Opera . In 1988 he ended his career as a dancer and began studying at the University of Applied Arts Vienna . In 1993, in his senior year, he had his first exhibition at the Vienna Secession. In his works he makes his homosexuality the topic and deals with male sexuality in them. In 1999 Herrmann became President of the Secession and in 2006 he was appointed professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, and from 2013 he has been a member of the University of the Academy of Fine Arts. In 2003 he was awarded the Förderpreis and in 2005 the City of Vienna Prize for Fine Arts. In 2013 Matthias Herrmann received the Otto Breicha Prize for his photographic work. Herrmann worked for the Austrian AIDS awareness campaign.
