Rirkrit Tiravanija

Rirkrit Tiravanija ( Thai : ฤกษ์ ฤทธิ์ ตีระ ว นิ ช , pronunciation: [ rɯk-rit tira-wanit ]; * 1961 in Buenos Aires ) is an action or performance artist .

Life

Rirkrit Tiravanija grew up in Thailand, studied in New York , Chicago and in Banff and Toronto , Canada . He lives and works in Bangkok , Berlin and New York .

Rirkrit Tiravanija became known in the 1990s through actions in which he prepared Thai meals in a “mobile home” and served them to art audiences in galleries and museums. He tries to come into direct contact with visitors through temporary architecture and the use of everyday objects. One example is his Peugeot exhibited at Neugerriemschneider in Berlin in 2010 with the title Untitled 2010 (All the Days on the Autobahn) .

Rirkrit Tiravanja founded a municipality in Thailand that works on agriculture and is ecologically oriented.

Works

For the 2006/2007 season in the Vienna State Opera , he designed the large picture “Fear Eats Soul” as part of the “Iron Curtain” series of exhibitions conceived by museum in progress .
