The Gamburger Tunnel is a railway tunnel on the Lauda – Wertheim line in the Main-Tauber district in Baden-Württemberg . The length of the tunnel is 195 meters from rail line kilometers 19.263 to 19.464. As part of the "Badische Taubertalbahn" entity , it is a listed building .

location

The railway tunnel leads through the Lindhelle am Neuberg near Gamburg. After the east portal ( Lage ) the route leads directly to the Gamburg train station and after the west portal ( Lage ) in the direction of the Wertheim town of Bronnbach .

Both portals are located in the district of Werbach Gamburg.

It is the first of a total of three tunnels on the Lauda – Wertheim railway line (next to the Bronnbach tunnel and the Reicholzheim tunnel , also known as the Waldenhausen tunnel ). A switch located in the tunnel is a special feature of the Gamburger tunnel. This means that it is always free of snow and ice in winter.

history

The tunnel was designed for a second track, which was never built. During the Second World War , from around 1944 onwards, the unneeded subgrade was used by the Saarbrücken repair shop as an external warehouse.
