The Wittighausen Tunnel , also Wittighausener Tunnel , is a railway tunnel of the Frankenbahn near Wittighausen in the Main-Tauber district in Baden-Württemberg . The length of the tunnel is 138 meters. As part of the “Badische Odenwaldbahn” entity, it is a listed building .

The railway tunnel leads through the Urbansberg near Wittighauser district Unterwittighausen . After the south portal ( Lage ) the route leads in the direction of Zimmer and Grünsfeld and after the north portal ( Lage ) the former Wittighausen train station and today's Wittighausen stop immediately follow . Both tunnel portals are on the suburbs of Unterwittighausen.

history

In October 2018, the renovation work began in the Wittighauser tunnel, which by widening the tunnel cross-section also enables modern freight trains to meet. The construction work was originally supposed to be completed by December 2019, with the renewed tunnel already in operation on September 11, 2019. During the main construction phase, the affected section of the route was completely closed.
