Gammertingen (noble family)
The Counts of Gammertingen (also: "Gammertinger" ) were a family of Swabian counts of the 11th and 12th centuries with ancestral seat near Gammertingen , later also Hettingen and Achalm in what is now Baden-Württemberg . Since it was first mentioned in a document in 1101, members of this family have also been attested as counts of "Gammertingen-Hettingen" , "Achalm-Hettingen" or "Achalm" .
history
Beginning, ascent and end
In the second half of the 11th century, the Counts of Gammertingen, whose origin is not clear, set up their first ancestral seat, Burg Baldenstein , near Gammertingen . In 1101 they were mentioned for the first time in a document from the Allerheiligen monastery in Schaffhausen . The counts owned the towns of Zuoz and Pontresina in the Upper Engadin .
Around 1120 they began building a second castle above the village of Hettingen ( Hatingen ) and were henceforth also called "Counts of Gammertingen-Hettingen" . In 1134 they came into possession and title of the earlier Counts of Achalm . In 1138 they were mentioned as the owner Neufras ( Nufiron ) in Berthold's Zwiefalter Chronik . Their ancestral seat at Baldenstein Castle was destroyed by fire in 1150. Until their extinction at the beginning of the 13th century they held the title "Counts of Achalm-Hettingen" .
Succession
After the count family died out at the beginning of the 13th century, rule over Gammertingen and Hettingen fell to the Counts of Veringen , in 1447 to the Lords of Rechberg , in 1467 to Ulrich V. von Württemberg , around 1480 to the Lords of Bubenhofen , with Hettingen as theirs Made royal seat, in 1524 to the Barons von Speth and finally in 1806 to the Principality of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen .
The lords of Neuffen took over the rule of the Achalm .
