geology

Inneringen lies on a formation of the white Jura , namely the uppermost layer of the Zeta limestone.

history

Hettingen

Castle and town of Hettingen from the southwest with walling (view from 1717)
Hettingen from the southwest, early 20th century
View of Hettingen from the castle

The settlement founded by the Alemanni was first mentioned as Hatingin 1135 in the Zwiefalter Chronicle of Ortlieb. In the 11th century it belonged to the Counts of Achalm , later to the Counts of Veringen , who probably built the castle mentioned in 1267 on the ridge above the village. In the 13th century the Veringern founded an urban settlement below the castle. Wing walls led to the Lauchert to protect the place. The city of Hettingen was laid out in regular construction along the through road right next to the village.

With the lordship of Gammertingen , the lords of Speth acquired the place in 1524 and formed a separate lordship when the lordship was divided in 1599 from the places Hettingen, Hermentingen and Kettenacker . After the end of Speth's rule, the small town fell back into village-like conditions. The castle was built in 1720 and remained in the possession of the Speth family until the 20th century. It was bought up by Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen in 1827 with all of Speth's possessions .

In 1850 the city, like all of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, went to Prussia as part of the Hohenzollern Lands . In 1883 the town charter was revoked, but was given again in 1952.

On April 8, 1909, the local section of the Hohenzollerische Volks-Zeitung reported that a citizen of Hetting was digging earth for a new building on his property near the castle and found a well-patinated piece of bronze that depicts a grimacing head with a diabolical expression. The assumption that the piece is of Roman origin is unlikely to be true. It is probably an ornament from the old castle from the Renaissance period.

Inneringen

Inneringen was also mentioned for the first time in 1135 in the Zwiefalter Chronicle of Ortlieb. From the 13th century onwards, the Lords of Schiltau are regarded as local lords. The nobles of Schiltau were a ministerial family , some of which were also in the service of the Counts of Veringen . In 1355 Inneringen became the property of the Lords of Hohenfels-Jungingen , and in 1367 to the Lords of Reischach , who were to keep the place until 1418. Subsequently and until 1534 the Lords of Werdenberg ruled . After this male line died out, Inneringen and the Jungnau lordship fell to Count Friederich the Elder of Fürstenberg , the son-in-law of Count Christoph von Werdenberg.

Inneringen remained under Fürstenberg sovereignty until 1806. In that year, the House of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen received state sovereignty over the rule Jungnau with Inneringen on the basis of the Rhine Federation Act, but in terms of administration, Inneringen remained under the rule of Fürstenberg until the upper bailiff in Jungnau was dissolved in 1840. On August 24, 1853, on the day of remembrance of St. Bartholomew , at 3:30 p.m., Inneringen experienced a devastating hail disaster . The hailstones the size of a fist or a child's head claimed 19 injured residents, including one seriously injured, hundreds of dead animals and destroyed a large part of the harvest. The roofs of more than 210 residential and commercial buildings were almost completely destroyed. The damage to the old church building was so severe that the building was demolished in March 1861. Even today, on the anniversary of the accident, all church bells are rung to commemorate the catastrophe.

On the southern outskirts of Inneringen there was a military facility covering around 15 hectares from 1959 ( Fort Black Jack ). It was presumably a French and later American position of nuclear warheads during the Cold War . The peace movement also demonstrated in Inneringen in 1983 against the NATO double decision and the possible stationing of Pershing II missiles . In 1983 the base was abandoned by the US armed forces.

Merger

On January 1, 1975, the previously independent municipalities Inneringen and Hettingen were merged as part of the municipal reform of Baden-Württemberg . This merger was previously brought about by a referendum.

Population development

At the time of the municipal reform, the two districts together had 1941 inhabitants, in the 1990s the number of inhabitants rose to 2110. Mainly due to a significant population decline in the district of Hettingen (from 1030 to around 850), the city is now the second smallest city in the state of Baden-Württemberg after Langenburg in the district of Schwäbisch Hall .

Religions

Both Hettingen and Inneringen are influenced by Catholicism. In both places there is a Catholic parish with the patronage of St. Martin, which belonged to the former diocese of Constance . For centuries, the Hettinger parish was assigned to the neighboring village of Hermentingen as a branch , until this was changed in the early 1990s due to the political affiliation of Hermentingen. Since then, Hermentingen has been a branch of Veringenstadt .

Today the parishes belong to the dean's office Sigmaringen-Meßkirch of the Archdiocese of Freiburg ; Together with the neighboring parishes of St. Nikolaus in Veringenstadt, St. Michael in Veringendorf and the subsidiary parish of St. Gallus in Hermentingen, they form the pastoral care unit of Veringen .

The inhabitants of the Protestant denomination belong to the Protestant parish of Gammertingen and thus to the Evangelical Church in Württemberg .

Hettingen is located on the Hohenzollernstrasse and is part of the holiday region "In the Lauchert Valley".

Hettingen Castle

Hettingen Castle can be traced back to a castle from the 11th century.

Catholic parish church of St. Martin

Parish Church of St. Martin, Hettingen

The Hettinger parish church was built under the rule of the "golden knight" Hans Kaspar von Bubenhofen as a collegiate church for a lordly canonical monastery in the late Gothic style and inaugurated in 1499. The choir and the chapel (baptistery) attached to the south are covered with reticulated vaults and decorated with floral ornaments in the choir. On the north wall of the choir is a filigree 8.5 meter high sacrament house made of sandstone, which extends into the vaulted ceiling and is crowned by a Madonna figure. This stonemason work from the time the church was built was probably made by master stonemasons from Reutlingen. Parts of the former stone rood screen , which separated the choir from the nave, can be found as lateral galleries in the choir. The nave was extended to the west in 1959, whereby the previous vestibule tower with a baroque dome remained in its place and is therefore now a roof turret. During the Christmas season, the remarkable baroque nativity scene from around 1800 is set up, the main figures of which are made of wax. The crib has several pictures; The Christmas picture, the adoration of the Magi and the wedding at Cana are still shown today. The late Gothic figure of the Madonna, the wall fresco in the baptistery (mantle division of St. Martin, foundation picture), the baptismal font with a painted octagonal cover from the Renaissance period and various epitaphs in the choir and baptistery are also worth mentioning. The organ (19 registers, 1186 pipes), consecrated in November 2010, was created by master organ builder Stefan Heiss from Vöhringen . The paintings from the 16th century are attributed to Peter Strüb from Veringenstadt, the grave monuments of the Lords of Speth, also from the 16th century, are works by the Ulm sculptor Hans Amann .

Sebastian Chapel

The Sebastian chapel was built in front of the north gate of Hettingen in 1612. The chapel originally stood in the lower village and was moved to its current location. The walls of the chapel are decorated with frescoes from the 17th and 19th centuries. The Mother of God on the Crescent Moon from 1490 is the work of the master from Illerzell .

Lady Chapel

The Marienkapelle, built in 1570 and baroque in the 18th century, is located like the parish church directly on the main road, at the beginning of the Hettinger valley, a dry side valley of the Lauchert valley. The painting of the choir room, which uses the means of pseudo-architecture to represent a baroque altar structure, is characteristic of the space. The chapel has a 15th century Virgin Mary and a small positive organ with four stops, the core of which is from the Baroque period; the pipes are of more recent origin. The instrument was restored by the Weigle organ building workshop in 1945.

Small monuments

There are many small monuments in the area of the city of Hettingen, including:

  • On the left side of the road to Hermentingen there was a stone cross with a broken shaft (1970), heraldic shield in relief (von Bubenhofen), dedicated to the duel between nobles.

Parish Church of St Martin, Inneringen
  • The parish church of St. Martin in Inneringen is a neo-Gothic church from 1861. The tower shaft dates back to the Middle Ages. In 2012, the organ of the church, built by Esslingen organ builder Wilhelm Blessing in 1865, was thoroughly renovated by Orgelbau Vleugels from Hardheim and returned to its original technical condition.
  • The Kreuzkapelle originally dates from the 15th century and was changed in the 18th century. The crucifixion group is the only one from the 15th century.
  • The Maria Nötenwang chapel is located about one kilometer outside the town center on the road towards Egelfingen in the forest.
  • To the west, on a small elevation, stands the baroque Trinity Chapel , popularly known as the Bergkäppele . The circular chapel is said to have arisen from a Roman watchtower. A rose garden was laid out in front of the building in 2007.

Water tower

The water tower is the symbol of Inneringen, and on a clear day the view extends to Mont Blanc , the highest mountain in the Alps. The water tower was designed in 1978 by the fruit, landscape and horticultural association as a place of local history and recreation with picture panels showing the history of the local area. When the building was threatened with decay in 2002, it was restored.
