Ganderbal is a city ( Municipal Committee ) in the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir .
It forms the administrative seat of the district of the same name . In the 2011 census, the population was 28,233.
The city of Ganderbal is located in the Kashmir Valley 15 km north of Srinagar at the foot of the Himalayas . The city is located at an altitude of 1584 m on the bank of the Sind , which leaves the mountains here. A road bridge crosses the river at Ganderbal. The National Highway 1D , which comes from Kargil overcomes the mountain pass Zoji La and leads down the Sind Valley, passes the town of Ganderbal and ends in Srinagar.
