Ganon was a post-metal band from Michigan formed in 2001 .

history

The name Ganon is based on the antagonist of the same name in the computer game series The Legend of Zelda .

According to their own biography, the band was founded as a "bad imitation of Burning Witch and EyeHateGod ". Before the first recordings, not only did the band develop into post-metal style , but also changed various guitarists. After recording the debut In the Dead of Sleep , guitarist Matt left the band and was not replaced, the remaining constellation continued to exist. In the Dead of Sleep was released on February 25, 2006, the second album As Above so Below was released on December 31, 2008. Two years later, the band officially began recording a new album, but could not do so due to professional and personal obligations to lock. In addition, the publishing activities of the previous Acerbic Noise Development label were largely discontinued in September 2009. Since then, the company has been selling the existing holdings without issuing new publications. In December 2013, Ganon singer Kenny McNabb founded his own label under the title Corpse Flower Records. The band remained active at times and announced concert dates and studio activities via social media , but ceased operations in the second half of the 2010s without notice.

Ganon played with Pentagram , Intronaut , Mouth of the Architect and Triptykon , among others . After a performance at the Majestic Theater in New York with Triptykon, Yakuza and 1349 , Thomas Gabriel Fischer bought a copy of As Above so Below from the band in 2010 and mentioned the band in an interview in October of the same year as one of the bands that currently concerns him would.

style

Ganon play song-oriented post-metal , which the band occasionally calls " nerd sludge ". The Internet magazine Deadtide.com the band's debut with the albums will Oceanic and Panopticon of Isis compared and referred Ganon as "second-rate version of Isis". Thom Jurek, on the other hand, emphasizes the bass playing as particularly independent and remarkable; "Clark Eagling sounds like a real bass player, not like someone who only gives the drummer time to fill in the gaps." He describes the strong song orientation as another strength of the band, which sets it apart from other representatives of the genre. In the Dead of Sleep is declared one of the best albums of 2006 in the Internet magazine MetalStorm.net and the songwriting is described as particularly innovative and successful. The band's music, which is noticeably influenced by popular representatives of post-metal, has enough “independent and progressive elements in its mix to become a real original”.
