Ganshyam Bhai Oza

Ganshyam Bhai Oza ( Gujarati : ઘનશ્યામભાઈ ઓઝા; * October 25, 1911 ; † July 12, 2002 in Ahmedabad , Gujarat ) was an Indian politician of the Indian National Congress (INC) and later the Janata Party (JNP), which, among other things, from 1957 to 1967 and again between 1971 and 1972 was a member of Lok Sabha , the First Chamber of the Indian Parliament (Bhāratīya Saṃsad) . He was also Chief Minister of Gujarat from 1972 to 1973 . He was also a member of the Rajya Sabha , the second chamber of parliament, from 1978 to 1984 .

Life

Oza, son of Shri Chhotalal, completed an undergraduate degree after attending school and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA). After completing postgraduate studies in law with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.), he worked as a lawyer . He was also a member of the Senate of Gujarat University and Saurashtra University .

After India gained independence from the United Kingdom on August 15, 1947, Oza became a member of the Legislative Assembly of the Saurashtra State Union in 1948 , of which he was a member until 1956. In 1951 he was appointed by Chief Minister Uchharangray Navalshankar Dhebar to the state government of Saurashtra and served under this and his successor Rasiklal Umedchand Parikh as Minister for State Revenue , Labor, Local Self-Government, Industry and Supply until 1956. After Saurashtra was incorporated into the state of Bombay on November 1, 1956 due to the States Reorganization Act , he became a member of the Legislative Assembly of the state of Bombay and was a member of this until 1957.

In the election between February 24 and March 15, 1957 , Oza was for the first time a member of the Lok Sabha , the First Chamber of the Indian Parliament (Bhāratīya Saṃsad) for the Indian National Congress (INC ) . After his re-election in the election from February 19 to 25, 1962, to the February 15 to 21, 1967 election . He later served as chairman of the Gujarat Industrial Development Society from 1970 to 1971 . In the election from March 1 to 10, 1971 , he was re-elected to the INC as a member of Lok Sabha, where he represented the constituency of Gujarat-Rajkot until 1972 . In May 1971 he was appointed by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to her second cabinet and served there until August 1972 as Minister of State with the Minister for Industrial Development Moinul Hoque Choudhury .

After a temporary presidential government ( President's rule ) of President V. V. Giri across the state of Gujarat between 13 May 1971 and 16 August 1972 Oza was born on August 17, 1972 Chief Minister of Gujarat and held that post for eleven months until the 19th July 1973 off. His successor was then on July 20, 1973 Chimanbhai Patel , who also belonged to the INC. He was also a member of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly between 1972 and 1974.

In 1977 Oza left the INC and joined the Janata Party (JNP) founded by Morarji Desai , Chaudhary Charan Singh , Lal Krishna Advani , Surendra Mohan and Ram Dhan . On April 10, 1978 he became a member of the Rajya Sabha , the second chamber of parliament, for the JNP and represented the state of Gujarat in this until April 9, 1984.

His marriage to Shrimati Ramalaxmi in May 1931 resulted in two sons and two daughters.
