Guard regiment

A guard regiment is a military unit that belongs to the guard and therefore has a special relationship with the head of state. In contrast to this, the other regiments, which do not belong to the guard but to the so-called "line", are called line regiments .

A regiment in the infantry usually consists of several battalions .

Prussia

The most important Prussian Guard regiments:

The Guard regiments of the Prussian Army together formed their own army corps , the Guard Corps . With the exception of the Augustans, who temporarily garrisoned in Koblenz , they had their garrison in or near the Prussian capital and residence city of Berlin and the Potsdam residence .

The chief of the two most distinguished guards regiments: the 1st Guards Regiment on Foot and the Regiment of the Gardes du Corps was always the respective King of Prussia .
