Gargonza Arts

Gargonza Arts is an artist-in-residence program for young artists from various artistic directions. The scholarship was awarded for the first time in 2012 by the association InterArtes - Association for the Promotion of the Arts eV. The association was founded on January 16, 2011 with the aim of awarding regular interdisciplinary scholarships in various arts and building a long-term network. The project takes place at the Castello di Gargonza in Gargonza , a district of Monte San Savino , in the province of Arezzo and since 2016 in Le Capanne-Siena.

The scholarship holders are named by well-known artists. An application is currently not possible, but the long-term goal of the association. The aim of the scholarship is to give artists from various artistic fields space and time to work on an interdisciplinary basis in an inspiring location. The works created in Gargonza are presented to the public in joint events, exhibitions and concerts in Gargonza, at different locations in Germany and other European countries. In 2016, the exhibition curated by Wilfried Dörstel showed “together or differently. 21. Artists - 5 years - Gargonza Arts ”(9.9. – 9.10.2016) for the first time all 21 scholarship holders in the Museum of Applied Arts Cologne (MAKK) in a joint show.

Gargonza Arts Award

The Gargonza Arts Award was presented for the first time in March 2012. It is awarded once a year to four to five young, outstanding artists. The award includes a three-month stay in the "Casa Contessa Francesca" - a house that is attached to the Castello di Gargonza. The award is offered by the association InterArtes eV. The initiator and chairman of the association is Michael Faust, solo flutist of the WDR Symphony Orchestra and professor at the Robert Schumann University in Düsseldorf.

The curators include artists from the fields of composition, architecture, literature and the visual arts, including Mary Bauermeister , Tony Cragg , Ulrike Draesner , Péter Eötvös , Heinz Holliger , Jürgen Klauke , Herbert Molderings , Hanns-Josef Ortheil , Karl-Heinz Petzinka , Robert HP Platz , Daniela Seel and Ulrich Wiegmann .
