Laurence Gartel

Laurence Gartel (born June 5, 1956 in New York , NY ) is a pioneer of digital art . His work has been exhibited at MoMA ( Museum of Modern Art ), The Art Gallery on the Westbrook College , Long Beach Museum of Art , Princeton Art Museum, PS 1, Norton Museum and is part of the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Institution 's Museum of American History and the Bibliotheque Nationale .

Born and raised in New York City, Gartel had the opportunity to teach Andy Warhol how to use an Amiga computer, attended the School of Visual Arts with fellow student, graffiti artist Keith Haring , earned his BFA degree with a major in Graphics and started a career in digital art side by side with Nam June Paik at Media Study / Buffalo in the New York area. Gartel had many collaborations with musicians, such as B. Debbie Harry ( Blondie ) Sid Vicious ( Sex Pistols ), Stiv Bators ( Dead Boys ), Johnny Thunders ( New York Dolls ), Ace Frehley ( Kiss ) and Wendy O. Williams ( Plasmatics ). Gartel created art for pop culture stars like Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears .

One of Gartel's most popular campaigns is Absolut Vodka 1990. This advertisement is considered to be the first digital art advertisement.

His biography is included in "Who's Who," "Who's Who in the East," "Who's Who in America," "Who's Who in American Art," and "Who's Who in the World."
