Gary Gianni

Gary Gianni (* 1954 in Chicago ) is an American comic book artist and illustrator.

In 1976 he graduated from the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts . He then worked as an illustrator for the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times newspapers and as a court draftsman for Network Television News . His drawings have appeared in numerous newspapers, magazines, paperbacks, comics, and children's books.

His first book illustrations were found in 1988 editions of Melville's Moby Dick and in Kidnapped by Robert Louis Stevenson for First Comics in the Classic Illustrated series. In 1990 he drew his first comics with adaptations of stories by O. Henry The Tales of O. Henry and Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea . This was soon followed by the adventures of Indiana Jones and the Shrine of the Monkfish and the MonsterMen he created for Dark Horse Comics . The MonsterMen comic series was later renamed Corpus Monstrum .

In 1997 he and Archie Goodwin received the Eisner Award for the short story Heroes in Batman : Black and White by DC Comics . Gary Gianni has been a well-known fantasy artist ever since he illustrated the stories by Robert E. Howard for Wandering Star. For a year and a half Gianni worked on the 200 drawings and 7 oil paintings to illustrate the adventures of the thoughtful hero Solomon Kane in the Puritan age. The book was published in 1998. The cover picture won the Gary Spectrum's Silver Award. In 1999 he drew a cover picture and story for Tom Strong, ABC Comics. In 2001 he illustrated another work by Howard for Wandering Star: Bran Mak Morn: The Last King . Twelve (other source: eight) color plates and more than 45 pencil and ink drawings complement Howard's stories about a people long extinct and their tragic war king. He also started drawing for Conan . Between March 2004 and March 2012 he worked with Mark Schultz on Prince Eisenherz . In 2015 he created the illustrations for the book A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms , a pre-story to George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire .
