Gary Kuehn (* 1939 in Plainfield , New Jersey ) is an American graphic artist and sculptor .

life and work

Gary Kuehn was born into a working class family in 1939. In the 1950s and 1960s, Kuehn was a steel worker and roofer . He received his bachelor's degree from Drew University in 1962 and graduated with a master's degree from Rutgers University in 1964 . Kuehn was a professor at the Mason Gross School of the Arts in New Brunswick (New Jersey) .

Kuehn's work cannot be clearly assigned to an art movement; it is often brought closer to process art and minimalism . Kuehn was the first artist to be invited to Kassel by gallery owner Rolf Ricke in 1967 and supplied with materials to create works on site. Thus he was involved in the creation of the producer gallery type.

"In the final analysis it's just a question of sex and geometry."
