The former inn chapel

The Gasthauskapelle (also: Georgiuskapelle ) is a listed former hospital chapel in Holzweiler , a district of Erkelenz in the district of Heinsberg ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

history

The Holzweiler ' parish church of St. Cosmas and Damian was incorporated into the Essen monastery in the Middle Ages . The Counts of Jülich held the patronage of the Katharinen Altar in the parish church and the associated inn chapel. The inn itself has been traceable since 1401, the bell bore the year 1415 as an inscription. In 1820 a false ceiling was put in the chapel and converted into a schoolhouse. Today it serves as a residential building. The structure, which is essentially Gothic, is externally recognizable by the preserved three-sided choir closure. The building is a registered monument in Erkelenz under the number 142.
