Herz-Jesu-Kirche (Kuckum)
The Herz-Jesu-Kirche ( ) is the Roman Catholic branch church of the Erkelenz district of Kuckum in the district of Heinsberg ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).
The church is entered in the list of architectural monuments in Erkelenz under number 196 , but will be demolished around 2025 as it will have to give way to the Garzweiler opencast mine .
history
A first church in Kuckum is mentioned for the year 1535. This was a little holy house. In 1794 this was replaced by the Kreuzkapelle, a foundation of the Martin Schüller couple. This half-timbered building was demolished in 1891. As early as 1888 a chapel building association was founded to finance a new church. On October 13, 1889, the church building permission was granted by the Cologne Vicariate General. On June 29, 1890, the foundation stone for the new church was finally laid. The building is a neo-Gothic hall church with a choir closed on three sides . From 1925 to 1926 a sacristy was added according to plans by Eduard Endler .
The church has belonged to the large parish Chriskönig Erkelenz since January 1st, 2015. The Kuckum parish was dissolved in 2010 and added to the newly founded parish of St. Maria and Elisabeth Erkelenz in 2010. This merged on January 1st, 2015 with the parish of St. Lambertus Erkelenz to form the parish of Christkönig.
Furnishing
In the interior there is a modern altar , as well as a way of the cross , painted figures and benches from the time the church was built.
