Holy Trinity in Gerderhahn

The Holy Trinity Church is the Roman Catholic branch church of Erkelenzer district Gerderhahn in Kreis Heinsberg in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The building is entered under number 101 in the list of architectural monuments in Erkelenz .

history

Up until the 20th century there was no church of its own in Gerderhahn. However, around 1900 there was a growing desire among the population to have their own church. The Rheydt architect Fischer was commissioned to plan a small church for Gerderhahn. The foundation stone was laid on June 30, 1901 and the consecration finally took place on May 31, 1904. In 1961 the church was extended by two aisles. The plans for this were provided by the Erkelenz architect Josef Viethen. In 1973 the building was repaired.

Since January 1st, 2015 the church belongs to the parish Christkönig Erkelenz.

architecture

The original building by the architect Fischer and today's central nave were a three-bay hall church in neo-Gothic style with a three-sided choir in the east and an octagonal roof turret on the west gable. This building is vaulted with a ribbed vault. By adding the two side aisles, the hall church became a three-aisled church. The two side aisles are modern in shape and are spanned by a flat ceiling.

Furnishing

In the interior there is a neo-Gothic high altar from the time it was built and some painted figures of saints. The neo-Gothic confessional and the neo-Gothic baptismal font are also worth mentioning. The windows of the central nave and choir survived the Second World War unscathed and are works by the Hertel & Lersch company from Düsseldorf . They date from 1903. While the windows of the main nave show Gothic ornaments, the choir windows depict the coronation of Mary and the death of St. Josef . Will Völker designed the stained glass windows of the aisles between 1961 and 1962. They represent geometrical compositions. The two round windows on the west sides of the aisles represent St. Severin of Cologne and St. Hubertus of Liege .

Bells

The church has 2 bells in the tones c sharp "+ e" (raised). The bells were probably cast in Gescher by the company Petit & Gebr. Edelbrock .
