Gasthof Alter Wirt in Obermenzing

The Gasthof Zum Alten Wirt von Obermenzing in Munich 's Obermenzing district is a listed building at Dorfstraße 39 next to the village church of St. Georg . It is located on the former country road from Munich to Augsburg and is the oldest inn in Munich.

history

The Alte Wirt is documented in 1417 as a Tafernwirtschaft with licensing rights as well as the right to hospitality and accommodation. On a branch line of the Salzstrasse through Obermenzing, the old country road from Munich via Obermenzing and Lochhausen to Fürstenfeldbruck and Augsburg, the first inn was built on a former Würmfurt . The current shape of the building was created in the years 1589/90, at that time the farm also included a farm with over 200 days of work in the surrounding districts from Pasing to Aubing . In the 17th century, travelers to Munich stayed at the Alter Wirt if they could not reach the Munich city gates in time before they closed. The neighboring Blutenburg Castle also included merchants, princely hunting guests, court officials and servants among the guests at that time. From the middle of the 18th century, the direct route to Munich was interrupted by the construction of the park wall and the expansion of the Nymphenburg Palace Park , and the importance of the inn decreased. The turrets and a transverse gable on the building were extended by the Ott brothers in 1911. In 1988 the old inn was completely renovated.

description

The preserved building from the year 1589/90 is a two-storey saddle roof construction with a polygonal corner tower, an eaves-side extension and transverse gable. There are variously sized dining rooms and halls in the building. Today the Altes Wirt includes both the rear barn and the beer garden with 600 seats to the south, as well as the rest of the maypole meadow opposite with a maypole . The building represents a typical village inn and is a defining element in the town center of Obermenzing, which is protected as an ensemble .
