Gaston Hauchecorne
Gaston Hauchecorne (born September 10, 1880 in Le Havre , France , † April 8, 1945 in Paris , France) was a French sculptor .
Life
Hauchecome was the brother of the French consul in the Chinese Empire , Armand Hauchecorne. At the turn of the century he was a professor at Peking University . In the literature he is also mentioned as managing director of the consulate in Chongqing , as an interpreter in Beijing (1911) or as a "diplomat" in France (1940) who had "spent a large part of his working life in China".
Hauchecome made numerous sculptures with Chinese motifs from terracotta and bronze, some with a humorous undertone. He showed his work in 1922 at the Exposition nationale coloniale de Marseille and at several salons of the Société nationale des beaux-arts in the 1920s.
Some of the bronze Hauchecomes were handcrafted by the Parisian foundry Les Neveux de Jules Lehmann , others by the competing Susse Frères . Hauchecome also belonged to the artist group La Stèle , founded by the Éditeur d'art (art publisher) and sculptor Arthur Goldscheider in the 1920s , whose work Goldscheider exhibited in 1925 at the Paris Exposition internationale des Arts Décoratifs et industriels modern .
