Gauge or Gage (pronunciation for both spellings: [ geidʒ ]) is an English word for different German terms. On the one hand, it denotes the physical quantity to be measured , i.e. a measure , specifically a standard or gauge block , and on the other hand the associated measuring device , in particular a measuring gauge , dial gauge or a caliper , for the metrological determination of this quantity.
