The Gdańska Galeria Miejska (GGM) ( German Danziger Städtische Galerie ) is the gallery of the city of Gdansk that has existed since 2009 . The cultural facility includes the exhibition rooms GGM1, GGM2 and 4G - Gdańska Galeria Güntera Grassa (Danziger Günter Grass Gallery) and the " Dom Daniela Chodowieckiego i Güntera Grassa " (also DChiG; Daniel-Chodowiecki-und-Günter-Grass-Haus ) which will be converted into a cultural center by 2023 .

program

Gdańska Galeria Miejska presents and promotes the work of artists associated with Gdańsk or its metropolitan area . One focus is the art of Gdańsk from the last 30 to 40 years. Points of contact between literature and fine arts should also be shown. The program includes solo and collective exhibitions, concerts and other events. Her educational activities also include workshops . Admission to most events is free.

Grassomania and Narracja

Gdańska Galeria Miejska is the organizer of the annual Grassomania art festival , which was held for the eleventh time in 2019.

She is co-organizer of the international art project Narracja - Installations and Interventions in Public Space , which has been taking place every November since 2009. It is a festival for light art , visual installations and video projections. The founding curator of the exhibition format is Bettina Pelz , who also curated the following two years.

Locations

The four GGM locations are in the Śródmieście district (inner city) . The first three in the Rechtstadt , the most important tourist and historical district of Gdansk. The cultural center is located in the neighboring old town of Gdańsk .

  • GGM1 at ulica Piwna 27/29 mainly shows current trends in contemporary art and the work of young artists in a Polish and international context. The format “Głęboka woda” ( German  deep water ) presents the award-winning works of the graduates of the Gdańsk Academy of Fine Arts every year. The curators are Maria Sasin and Gabriela Warzycka-Tutak.
  • GGM2 in ulica Powroźnicza 13/15 focuses on contemporary art by foreign artists. A format shown every two years is the Gdańskie Biennale Sztuki , which is the most comprehensive review of the works of artists from the Pomeranian Voivodeship . The curator is Andrzej Zagrobelny.
  • 4G in the corner building at ulica Szeroka 34–37 / Grobla I 1/2 shows and collects watercolors, drawings and sculptures by the Nobel Prize winner Günter Grass (1927–2015), 140 of which she owns. The works of young artists are also presented. The gallery publishes two series on Grass, the first on his artistic work, the second on his literary work. Marta Wróblewska is the director and curator. In front of the entrance is the sculpture Butt im Griff von Grass.
  • DChiG (Dom Chodowieckiego i Grassa) at ulica Sieroca 6 is named after Daniel Chodowiecki (1726–1801) and Günter Grass (1927–2015) and is located in the former donation and orphanage built in 1699 . The listed building is to undergo extensive renovation and redesign from 2020 to 2023. Its reopening as an international and interdisciplinary cultural center is planned for October 2023.
