Gebrüder Grundmann Ges.mbH (GG, later GEGE) was an Austrian company based in Herzogenburg . It specialized in the manufacture of locks. Grundmann GmbH , based in Hainfeld, will continue with the brands WG and GEOS .

history

In 1862 the company was amended by from Gdansk coming "First train driver" of Emperor Ferdinand Northern Railway , Carl Grundmann , who is also the engineer of three emperors and the first German train drivers was the monarchy in Vienna founded Second District.

In the first few years, the company founder worked both in the metalworking shop and as a train driver. His aim was not to manufacture locksmith items manually, but industrially.

Therefore, in addition to his work as a train driver, since the company was founded in 1862, he worked tirelessly in a garden house in Vienna's second district and was able to take part in the 1873 World Exhibition thanks to the mechanical production method. By this time he had already produced a million locks together with another train driver. Due to this success, however, he was also forced to considerably expand the production facilities, which is why he moved them to Ossarn in 1875 in a closed metal goods factory owned by the Vollrath company.

In 1880 a new factory building on the Traisen was finally moved into in Herzogenburg, where the company is still located today. Carl Grundmann himself did not live to see this success, however, as he had barely died at the age of 61 a year earlier due to excessive workload. His sons Wilhelm, Julius, Gustav and Heinrich expanded the extremely successful company, which in 1914 was the largest manufacturer of lock goods in the monarchy with over 400 employees.

In 1894 Wilhelm Grundmann separated from his brothers and the company they had shared until then and founded his own company in Rohrbach an der Gölsen under the name KK, exclusively priv. Rohrbacher Schlosserwarenfabrik Wilh. Grundmann . This company was active from 2000 under the name Grundmann Beschlagtechnik GmbH before moving to Rohrbacher Schlosswarenfabrik Wilh in 2014 . Grundmann GmbH was renamed.

A number of patents (Paderschloss) and awards (Austrian national coat of arms) accompanied the company's upswing. Herzogenburg owes Grundmann the city elevation that took place in 1927: Despite the small number of inhabitants of 2800, the state parliament of Lower Austria decided on June 30, 1927 to raise Herzogenburg to a city due to its economic importance.

After the Second World War, the company was managed by the married-in central director Nikolaus Bujas, who u. a. the foundry department expanded to include a light metal foundry . At that time, the number of employees exceeded 1,000.

The door fitting model 1000 Favorit (door handle: twisted wing made of anodized aluminum, designed in 1957 by Ernst Oskwarek) achieved dominant distribution in housing developments in the 1960s, as did the 2000 WG model from the 1980s , anodized in nickel silver, slim, flat, non-chiral, ergonomic with a groove for the Index finger and bevel for the thumb.

In 1967 the company received the state award and has been allowed to use the federal coat of arms in business transactions ever since .

In 1972 the Swiss foundry group Georg Fischer AG from Schaffhausen took a stake in the company. Investments in the following years led to the expansion of the market position of "Gebrüder Grundmann GmbH" and to make the "GEGE" brand known internationally. Girozentrale joined the company as a further partner in 1975 and, after the Bujas group left, shared the equity stake in what is still the largest Austrian locksmith manufacturer.

In 1992 the locking technology division was spun off and subsequently traded under the name Grundmann lock technology GmbH. Subsidiaries in England (Grundmann UK) and Sweden (Abax) were founded. The company will be continued as part of the Kaba Group and celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2012.
