history
The place name Geersdijk is a combination of the personal name Geerlof and Deich. The original Geersdijk was an independent parish as early as the 13th century. The village did not survive the various floods and was rebuilt in 1668 in a different place, following the rectangular scheme of Colijnsplaat . This new Geersdijk received a port in 1808, which was used to ship agricultural products. In the first half of the last century there was also a mooring for the ferry to South Beveland. The small port still exists and is used for water sports.
tourism
Geersdijk is appreciated by nature lovers because of its tranquility, for example at the mini-campsites in and around the village. There are also opportunities for water sports.
