The yellow-stripe ant hatchers ( Myrmotherula sclateri ) belong to the genus Myrmotherula within the ant bird family (Thamnophilidae) .

The species is endemic to the Amazon rainforest and occurs in eastern Peru south of the Amazon , northern Bolivia and Brazil south of the Amazon.

The distribution area includes tropical or subtropical moist lowland forest, terra firme , transition zones and Várzea up to 550 m altitude. The species is found less often at the edge of the forest than the sympatric occurring eastern white-throated ant hatchers ( Myrmotherula brachyura ).

The Latin species addition refers to Philip Lutley Sclater .

features

The bird is 8 to 9 cm tall and weighs between 8 and 10 g. The male is black, whitish on the upper side, the cap is striped light yellow. The interscapular spot is light yellow, the wings have two distinct white bands, the tail feathers are edged white with white tips. The ear covers , throat and underside are yellow with a distinct black chin stripe. The female differs in that its head and chest are paler in color and are usually more striped on the underside. The form described by Cherrie in 1916 as Myrmotherula kermiti is now considered a variant of the species described here.

The species is monotypical .

voice

The singing is described as a long, somewhat plaintive, slowly repeated, even sequence of notes.

Way of life

The food consists of various insects , probably also spiders , which are hunted in pairs, in family groups and almost always in large mixed hunting communities, mostly 15 m above the ground.

The exact breeding season is not known.

Hazardous situation

The stock is not considered to be at risk ( least concern ).
