history

In 1981 the company was founded by Uwe Gemballa under the name G-Topline Automobiltechnik GmbH & Co. KG . Initially, the company limited itself to the installation of high-quality stereo systems and interior conversions on VW , Mercedes and Porsche vehicles. With the complete changes to the interior, mostly all built-in parts were covered with Alcantara or leather . But after the modifications to the vehicles by increasing the performance of the engines and changing the bodywork made massive changes to the technology, Mercedes and Porsche no longer allowed their trademarks to be left on the vehicle. Gemballa was then officially recognized as an automobile manufacturer by the Federal Motor Transport Authority .

In 2009, Gemballa Automobiltechnik GmbH & Co. KG had a global sales network with nine sales offices and around 50 employees. After the company's founder Uwe Gemballa was kidnapped in South Africa in February 2010, the Ludwigsburg District Court opened insolvency proceedings on the company's assets by decision of February 22, 2010 .

Gemballa Mistrale

Investor Steffen Korbach acquired the trademark and name rights for the Gemballa brand . The newly founded Gemballa GmbH then took over the assets of the liquidated old company and started new business operations on August 16, 2010. Steffen Korbach has been the managing director since December 2015.

Murder case Uwe Gemballa

Company founder Uwe Gemballa has been missing since a business trip to South Africa on February 8, 2010 . On September 28, 2010, the asphyxiated Gemballa was found wrapped in plastic wrap, west of Pretoria . New evidence refutes that Uwe Gemballa was involved in illegal business. According to Stern , on the contrary, it even means that Uwe Gemballa refused a deal of this kind and therefore had to die. In October 2010, a 28-year-old from Pretoria confessed to the crime and was sentenced to 20 years in prison. In November 2013, the suspected masterminded Czech businessman Radovan Krejcir, who is alleged to have been involved in several murder cases, was arrested in South Africa.
