history
The history of the region is not well researched. There are few archaeological finds, but they suggest an ancient history.
The head of a stone hammer was found near the village of Goriza. It has an opening for a stem and probably dates from the Stone Age / Copper Age - approx. 600 to 400 BC. At the village Spassowo remains of a settlement of the Goths were discovered. Also in the vicinity of Spassowo, next to a large burial mound, a round stone device was discovered, which probably has cultic significance and is Thracian and has to do with their sun cult. There are other finds from the time of the Goths - amphorae with stamps (imprints ???).
A column and other fragments of a monument with Greek inscription and ivory were found near the village of Krasen. Pottery from the Thracian and Roman times was also found. There was probably a Roman settlement here.
In the area of the village of Pereselenzi there is a large Roman fortress. Fragments of a Thracian marble sacrificial slab and a well-preserved bronze statue of Heracles were discovered here.
Some archaeological exhibits are in the museum in Bucharest, as the entire Dobruja was temporarily part of Romania.
