The Río Genil is the most important left tributary of the Guadalquivir with a length of 358 kilometers . It rises at 1,480 m. ü. M. in the province of Granada by the confluence of the Río Real and the Río Guarnón and drains an area of 8,278 km². The Genil flows through the cities of Granada , Loja , Puente Genil and Écija . It flows into the Guadalquivir at Palma del Río .
