Genlisea barthlottii is a carnivorous plant from the species of trap traps inthe water hose family (Lentibulariaceae). It is onlynativeto Guinea and was first described in 1996.

description

Genlisea barthlottii is an annual herbaceous plant . The leaves stand in a dense, native rosette, are 11 to 12.5 millimeters long and 4.5 to 3 millimeters wide; they are spatulate, blunt at the end and covered with thread-like hairs on the top. The numerous traps reach a length of up to 8 centimeters.

The upright, unbranched or weakly branched inflorescence axis is 18 to 24 centimeters long, cylindrical in cross-section, glabrous in the lower part, weak to dense in the upper part with long-stalked glands, short, in a row, non-glandular hairs and a few scaly leaves. The bracts are ovate-lanceolate to linear-lanceolate, tapering to a point, reach a length of around 2 millimeters and have glands, non-glandular hairs are missing. The prophylls are linear-lanceolate and shorter.

On the inflorescence there are four to five flowers on upright, 5 to 10 (rarely 20) millimeter long pedicels , which continue to grow during flowering and fruiting and are densely covered with long-stalked glands and short, in a row, non-glandular hairs.

The calyx is five-lobed and divided almost to the base, the individual lobes are almost uniformly shaped, ovate-lanceolate, tapering to a point, 2 to 3 millimeters long and covered with long-stalked glands. The crown is 8 to 10 millimeters long and colored purple to purple. The up to 3.5 millimeters long upper lip is oval, oblong and round and tapers towards the upper, clipped end, the outer part is covered with short glandular hairs. The clearly three-lobed lower lip is up to 3.8 millimeters long and 8 millimeters wide, the spur is 6 to 7.5 millimeters long and covered with short glandular hairs.

The crescent-shaped stamens are approximately one millimeter long, the ovary round and covered at the top with up to 0.4 millimeters long-stalked glands, the stylus is short, the scar einlappig and semi-circular.

Distribution and location

Genlisea barthlottii is native to island mountains in Guinea .

There it is part of the very short-lived plant community of ephemeral flush vegetation , which is caused by large amounts of water flowing down the slopes that only occur during the rainy season and last only a few weeks. It is characterized by a high proportion of carnivorous plant species and representatives of the Eriocaulaceae , Xyridaceae and Burmanniaceae .

Systematics and botanical history

It was first described in 1996 by Stefan Porembski , Eberhard Fischer and Björn Gemmel on the basis of material collected in Guinea in 1906. The Art epithet honors the German botanist Wilhelm Barthlott , the numerous studies on African Genlisea - types and their trap system performed as well as expeditions inselbergs has conducted in West Africa. Like all African species, Genlisea barthlottii belongs within the genus in the Genlisea section .

The species was only collected four times in total.
