Gennadi Alexandrovich Chwatow ( Russian Геннадий Александрович Хватов ; * 3. May 1934 in Myschkino , Yaroslavl Oblast ) is a Soviet - Russian admiral a. D. From 1986 to 1993 he was in command of the Pacific Fleet .

Life

Chwatow attended the Saratower preparatory naval war school until 1952 . From 1952 to 1956 he was an officer student at the Naval War College for Submariners in Leningrad Komsomol . He began his service in the Pacific Fleet in 1956 as the commander of the helmsman's group of the navigation combat section (GA-1) and as an assistant to the commander of a diesel submarine and a nuclear submarine. From 1964 to 1965 he completed special courses for officers in the naval fleet. After graduating from the Naval War Academy (1971-1973), Chwatow devoted himself in his role as chief of staff of a nuclear submarine division of the Pacific Fleet, among other things, to the training of submarine commanders and the perfecting of the work organization of the division staff. From 1974 to 1976 he graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Soviet Armed Forces and was then commander of a nuclear submarine division of the Pacific Fleet until 1978. After his appointment as Rear Admiral in 1977, he worked from 1978 to 1980 as chief of staff of a submarine flotilla and then until 1983 as its commander . His area of ​​responsibility included the development of the flotilla's infrastructure, the training of the crews and ensuring their combat readiness . Chwatow, promoted to Vice Admiral in 1981 , became Chief of Staff of the Pacific Fleet in 1983 and its commander on December 27, 1986 . In October 1987 he was promoted to admiral. On March 11, 1993, he was released into retirement.

Most recently Khwatov worked as an assistant to the rector of the GI Nevelskoi State Naval University in the military department.

From 1958 to 1991 he was a member of the CPSU and from 1990 to 1991 a member of the Central Committee of the CPSU .
