Geoffrey Henry Dormer, 17th Baron Dormer (born May 13, 1920 - May 10, 2016 ) was a British peer and non-party politician . He was a member of the House of Lords from 1995 to 1999 .

life and career

Dormer was born on May 13, 1920 to Captain Edward Henry Dormer and his wife Vanessa Margaret Borwick, a daughter of Robert Hudson Borwick, 1st Baron Borwick . He attended Eton College . In the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve rose to lieutenant commander . Dormer attended Trinity College , Cambridge . During World War II he took part in combat operations.

He was a member of the Hereditary Peerage Association and lived in Dittsham . Dormer died on May 10, 2016, at the age of 95, three days before his 96th birthday.

Membership in the House of Lords

Dormer inherited in 1995 after the death of his second cousin, Joseph Dormer, 16th Baron Dormer , his title and the then associated seat in the House of Lords .

He was not present during the 1997/98 session. In the Hansard there is also no entry about the performance of the oath of office.

He lost his seat through the House of Lords Act 1999 . He had not run for election for any of the remaining seats. He was not listed in the Register Of Hereditary Peers , which are available for by-election.

family

He married Janet Readman, the second daughter of James Forrest Alexander Readman, on August 20, 1947. They divorced in 1957. They have two daughters together. On December 15, 1958, Dormer married Pamela Simpson, the daughter of Wallace Levick Simpson. They had two sons. The elder of the two, Hon William Robert Dormer (* 1960), succeeded Geoffrey Dormer as the 18th Baron Dormer after his death.
