Geoffrey Drake

Geoffrey Drake (* 1911 ; † 1995 ) was a production designer and art director .

Life

Drake began his career on the film staff in 1949 as a technical draftsman while filming the sports drama Race with Death . As with his subsequent engagements in this role, he remained uncredited in the credits. In 1952 he worked for the first time as art director on the comedy film Curtain Up . For his first film as a set designer, Moby Dick , he again received no credit in 1956 . He worked as an assistant to the art director on the classic film Die Brücke am Kwai .

Drake has worked on a number of major British film productions, including The Mouse That Roared , The Navarone Guns and The Wild Pile of Navarone . Throughout his career, Drake has worked with directors such as John Huston , David Lean , Richard Attenborough and Guy Hamilton . 1973 he worked for Richard Attenborough's film adaptation The young lion together with Don Ashton , John Gray Mark , William Hutchinson and Peter James for the Oscar in the category Best Art Direction nominated, but the award went this year to theater . He was also nominated twice for the BAFTA Film Award in the category Best Production Design; 1966 for Lord Jim and 1973 for The Young Lion .
