Geoffrey Williams

Geoffrey Michael Williams (* 1965 in London ) is a British songwriter , soul and pop singer . His greatest commercial success was the single Cinderella , which reached number nine in the German charts in 1989 .

Career

At the beginning of his musical career, Geoffrey Williams toured the UK as a singer with the group Caleche. He was noticed by talent scouts and got his first record deal in 1988 . The music of the son of West Indian parents was influenced by Lionel Richie , James Ingram , Michael Jackson and Chaka Khan .

The single Cinderella from the album Heroes, Spies and Gypsies became a top 10 hit in Germany in early 1989 (number 9) and a little later a top 30 success in Switzerland (number 24). At the end of the year, Williams had a radio hit with Blue . The song from the album Prisoner of Love rose to number 27 on the German airplay charts in November and was listed there for a total of 12 weeks.

In 1992, the British made it into the British charts with the singles It's Not a Love Thing (number 63), which also reached number 70 on the Billboard Hot 100 , and Summer Breeze (number 56) . After three years of chart abstinence, two songs from the album The Drop were able to reach the UK charts in 1995 with Sex Life (number 71) and I Guess I Will Always Love You (number 79) . Drive from the same long player was number 52 in the UK in January 1997. In February 1998 I Guess I Will Always Love You also made it into the German charts and reached number 92.

In addition to his singing career, Williams made a name for himself as a songwriter. He wrote for Eternal and Billy Mann , among others , but was also co-author of Whatever Happens , a track on Michael Jackson's album Invincible . A planned album was given the working title Sidewinder , but it was released in 2011 Yes Is the Answer! .
