Godefroy (Geoffroy) Brossay-Saint-Marc (different spelling of the name: Godefroy de Brossais de Saint-Marc; * February 5, 1803 in Rennes ; † February 26, 1878 ibid) was a French cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church and from 1859 to his death the first Archbishop of Rennes .

Life

Geoffroy Brossais Saint-Marc came from a noble family that owned, among other things, the Château du Boschet in Bourg-des-Comptes . He was ordained a priest on April 2, 1831 . After he was elected Bishop of Rennes on March 26, 1841 and confirmed for this office on July 12, 1841, he received episcopal ordination on August 10, 1841 by the retired Bishop of Rennes Claude Louis de Lesquen and the co- consecrators Jean-Baptiste Bouvier , Bishop of Le Mans , and Jean-François de Hercé , Bishop of Nantes .

With the elevation of the diocese of Rennes to the archbishopric on January 3, 1859, Geoffroy Brossais Saint-Marc was appointed its first archbishop.
